The Flatlanders

A few months ago we set out to create a sense of pride for our fellow midwesterners. Something that would grab the attention of the rest of the world and show them that not only do we exist, we are thriving. We wanted to create an identity that would unify our community. The term “Flatlander” resonated with us. For us, it conjured the image of a forward thinking, hard working, and resilient individual. In a sense, the new generation of the traditional Midwesterner.

Over the past few years we have found ourselves surrounded by brilliant woodworkers, craftsmen, designers, illustrators, photographers, and musicians. We consider ourselves damn lucky to be deemed worthy to stand among them.

The Flatlander blog will be a showcase for the small businesses of the Midwest. A platform for others to tell their story and why they choose to call the Midwest their home. It will be an opportunity for us to share our history, hobbies, traditions, and virtues.

Fontenelle has recruited the help of Christian Watson of 1924us to design the first run of our Flatlander apparel and accessory line.

We spent a lot time trying to visualize what it means to be a Flatlander. For us it’s a die hard work ethic and a “pull yourself by your bootstraps” mentality. People who go the extra mile to improve their lives and the lives of others.

The Flatlanders community will be seeing:

Tee shirts

Bandannas

Lapel pins

Posters

Shop rags

Stickers

Patches

Events

Local Collaborations

etc...

We are very excited to build a better community and promote our fellow makers. This is an opportunity for the midwest to take a stand and show what we are made of, and we are humbled to be part of the experience.
